About Us
Back in November of 2002, Jim and Kate opened Vasilow's Confectionery in historic Hudson New York. She had been a social worker, and he a distributor of measuring and machine tools, so it was a logical progression for both :). The idea wasn't completely new - Jim's Grandparents operated the original Vasilow's from 1923 until their retirement in 1969. The current embodiment has won many awards, and has been featured by the likes of Everyday with Rachael Ray magazine.
In 2005, exhausted from a hectic Easter season, the couple ventured to Cancun for some much needed R&R. A day trip to Isla Mujeres ended much too soon for these travelers, but not before the Goddess Ixchel had mesmerized two more visitors with the unparalleled beauty of her island.
Since that visit, Isla has become Kate and Jim's refuge of choice when the opportunity to get away presents itself. The island, as well as some of its inhabitants, has inspired them to create some of the items that you'll find on this site.
AlmostIsla.com is a work in progress - we hope to add new products as time goes on. If there is something you'd like to see here, let us know.
